Offering family a sense of security in the event a family member or friend goes missing.
The Platte County Sheriff’s Office is proud to announce its involvement in the Nationwide Project Lifesaver Program. The Project Lifesaver Program will be offered to Platte County residents who are caring for loved ones with Alzheimer’s disease, autism, or other conditions that make them likely to wander away from caregivers.
Special needs residents in our community, who meet the eligibility requirements, are fitted with a device (bracelet) that would allow officers to track them should they become lost. The officers are equipped with locating devices that utilize radio waves to locate the transmitters that the program clients are issued.
To participate the prospective client must:
- Live within Platte County or any of the cities within Platte County
- Be diagnosed by a certified physician as having Alzheimer’s disease, other dimentia disorders, autism, Down’s Syndrome, or similar disorders.
- Be known to wander away from caretakers.
The cost for enrollment which includes one 60 day transmitter, one tester, and one year supply of batteries and bands is $95 plus $25 per month. To enroll, please download the enrollment packet.
Individuals and businesses may sponsor a participant. Donations toward the program for additional equipment and training are also welcome. Those wishing to donate to this program but not through Project Lifesaver International may contact the Sheriff’s Office.
Funding options may be available for those in need. Contact Sergeant Shanks at 816-858-2424 for information.
