Subject: Platte County Sheriff's Office observes National Law Enforcement Week

Sheriff Mark Owen has announced that the Platte County Sheriff's Office will honor all officers killed in the line of duty by participating with law enforcement agencies across the country in National Law Enforcement Week, May 15-21, 2017. There were 144 officers killed in the line of duty during 2016. Two of which were Missouri officers.

Concerns of Police Survivors, Inc. is an organization that works nationally with surviving families of officers killed in the line of duty. They have supplied blue ribbons to attach to car radio antennas to honor all officers killed in the line of duty. Platte County Sheriff's Office Patrol officers will have the opportunity to honor slain officers by displaying the blue ribbon on their patrol vehicle antenna. Over 1,000,000 blue ribbons are distributed for National Law Enforcement Week. If you wish to join the Platte County Sheriff's Office in honoring these officers, you may obtain a blue ribbon, while supplies last, by stopping by the Platte County Sheriff's Office, Monday through Friday from 8:30 am to 5:00 pm. Ribbons will be available May 15th through May 19th.

Sheriff Owen has requested that the flags at the Platte County Courthouse and Law Enforcement Center be flown at half-mast on May 15th, 2017, as a memorial for officers killed in the line of duty. A resolution was signed by the County Commissioners in Platte County Court on April 17, 2017, honoring these officers.
