• Keep the family computer in an open area.
• Post clear and simple house rules for using the computer.
• Talk to kids about not releasing personal information and be vigilant about social networks such as Facebook, MySpace and Xanga.
• Never meet in person with someone first met online.
• Don’t respond to offensive content.
• Know the people your children talk to online.
• Place Internet accounts in parent’s name.
• Children should not create online profiles, and should use non-descript screen names.
• Let kids show you what they can do and where they go online.
• Use a filter or, if necessary, a spyware detector.
