- Keep the family computer in an open area.
- Post clear and simple house rules for using the computer.
- Talk to kids about not releasing personal information and be vigilant about social networks such as Facebook, MySpace and Xanga.
- Never meet in person with someone first met online.
- Don’t respond to offensive content.
- Know the people your children talk to online.
- Place Internet accounts in parent’s name.
- Children should not create online profiles, and should use non-descript screen names.
- Let kids show you what they can do and where they go online.
- Use a filter or, if necessary, a spyware detector.
